AFTERCARE + FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS THERE A WAY TO INCREASE MY CHANCES OF COLLECTING A PIECE BY BRETT HERMAN? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Brett will review your request and determine based on your email which projects he is interested in taking on. Bringing him a great idea will get you noticed quicker than things that must be done a certain way with less creative freedom. In order to continue the growth and evolution of his art, he is looking for projects that spark immediate interest and inspiration (ie: Blackwork, Dark art, Animal portraiture, Horror and illustrative work) -and- WILL NOT add lettering to designs, work with blacklight inks or do tribal tattoos*
HOW MUCH DOES BRETT HERMAN CHARGE?
HOURLY RATE & MINIMUM - $200
4 Hour Sitting - $750 ($50 Off)
6 Hour Sitting - $1100 ($100 Off)
8 Hour Sitting - $1400 ($200 Off)
Please keep in mind overall pricing varies depending on each project. Brett offers discounted rates at the 4 hour mark. A $200 minimum for smaller tattoos and the standard hourly rate on appointments shorter than 4 hours. Please keep in mind that the majority of the projects you see in his portfolio are tattoos that cannot be finished in one session. He prefers to have longer sittings for larger projects to achieve the best overall outcome and ensure much attention to detail. On large projects he will usually offer one final free sitting (touch-up) to tighten up any loose ends and make your tattoo exceptional. To schedule a project, you must be able to travel to Denver, Colorado and dedicate the allotted days needed in order to complete your project within a reasonable time. Failure to complete projects within a certain time frame may be subject to rate increases or considered your project forfeited.
DOES BRETT HERMAN REQUIRE A DEPOSIT? HOW DO I SEE MY ARTWORK?
Yes, Deposits are $200 and are required to book an appointment date. Deposits are nonrefundable and will be forfeited for “no shows’ or cancellations without 72hrs notice. Deposits apply towards your project and will be applied to your final sitting. All drawings will be ready for viewing the day of appointment or even drawn directly on the skin. Images will never be emailed for viewing before your scheduled appointment date, However we can arrange plans for in-house viewing prior to appointment date.
TATTOO AFTERCARE
THE BANDAGE AND THE FIRST DAY.
Please note that this aftercare is NOT for secondary skin bandages. I do not usually use a SaniDerm or DermaShield applications (but do have it available for people that prefer.)
After your appointment for the day, you will be sent home in a saran wrap bandage for overnight protection. I recommend wearing this bandage overnight, for at least 8 hours but not exceeding 14 hours. This allows for the body to recognize the pain is done and can stop producing plasma at the procedure area, The body is fascinating, our plasma has the duty of creating a scab in order to heal, this bandage prevents that plasma from drying at the surface, minimalizing the scabbing and helps prevent a rough heal. Therefor, I definitely recommend wearing your bandage overnight and then thouroughly rinsing it off in the shower with water and bar soap as soon as you wake up. I prefer Dove or any unscented bar soaps. Clean body and hand thoroughly, then lather up some soap and gently rub the procedure area, remove all slime and excess ink. Make sure you get it extra clean the initial few showers.
THE DAY AFTER TO THE FIRST WEEK.
Do not re-bandage your tattoo after you have removed your wrap and showered, actually the goal is to let it get fresh air and dry out a bit. Try to keep from covering it with clothing if applicable, but definitely wear loose fitting clothes if required. Keep an eye out for any additional beads of plasma and make sure to clean it accordingly. I recommend cleaning your tattoo 3-4 daily and even more if you’re subject to dirty environments. For the first day I just recommend cleaning and not using lotion until day two or three. I recommend lotioning your tattoo after the 24 hour drying period for the entire healing process, at least 3 times a day with an unscented lotion. I recommend Aveeno lotion to my clients. DO NOT soak your tattoo or introduce it to any environments in which you could get an infection. THIS MEANS: DO NOT SWIM OR SOAK, DO NOT PICK AT YOUR TATTOO AND DEFINITELY NO GOING TO THE GYM! Trust me you do not want a staph infection or even MRSA.
FINAL HEALING PROCESS + SIDE NOTES
You may shower on a normal schedule, but no baths or soaking your tattoo, no rags or loofah’s. Make sure you use clean towels to dry off after your shower and pat your tattoo dry instead of rubbing. Make sure not to pick or scratch your tattoo, its very likely that it will be itchy, if itching persists a helpful hint remedy this issue is, slap it. The tattoo should be close to healed within 8-10 days, but can take up to two weeks. Your tattoo will feel similar to a sun burn, flaking and peeling is normal, do not assist the flakes by picking them off. If you notice flaking skin, this means your tattoo is still healing and is allowing the colors to saturate entirely into the dermis, picking will possibly infect or remove some of your tattoo.. Until you are fully healed, continue this aftercare procedure, you do not need any fancy tattoo balms or products capitalizing on the “tattoo” monicker. Most of them are just junk products anyways. Soap and lotion will be just fine. I must reiterate, do not swim or gym or pick at your tattoo, you may go back to your ways, when you are fully healed and the flaking process has completed. I like to give the tattoo a full 3-4 weeks to heal before any following tattoo work happens in that area. Please feel free to contact me at the shop for any other questions or concerns.
